Preparation is key, and it's non-negotiable.

You've got the interview scheduled - date, time, all set. This is your moment to shine, to demonstrate why you're the standout candidate for the role. Remember, you only get one shot, so don't leave anything to chance. Feeling anxious? Nerves are normal, but being unprepared only amplifies them. Start your prep early to ease those jitters and exude confidence when the time comes. Consider bringing notes - they're not a sign of weakness but rather a testament to your thoroughness. They can also serve as a handy prompt during the interview.

The client will likely ask what you know about them.

They're looking for genuine interest in their company and brand. Dig deep. Explore their website, especially sections like 'About Us,' 'Products/Services,' and 'Values,' and take note of any accolades or recognition. But don't stop there. Hit up Google (search 'company + news'), and scour LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for insights. Get to know the interviewer too - check out their social media profiles and any podcasts they've been on. Understanding the company inside out not only demonstrates your commitment but also arms you with relevant talking points, boosting your confidence and elevating your engagement during the interview.

Video interviewing; the same, but different.

In today's remote work environment, many interviews happen over video calls. Treat them like in-person meetings, but ensure your tech setup is solid and your surroundings are professional. Double-check your internet connection, camera, and microphone. Choose a quiet, well-lit space with a tidy background. Dress professionally and maintain good posture and eye contact throughout the call.

Be ready when opportunity knocks. Luck is the time when preparation and opportunity meet.

It’s the day of your interview.

First Impressions Matter!
Dress appropriately for your audience. While a digital start-up may have a more relaxed dress code compared to a large corporation, it's always safer to lean towards formal attire if you're uncertain.

Be On Time.
Know your route and estimated arrival time. Check traffic or train schedules in advance to avoid delays. Arriving late is a common mistake that can leave a negative impression on the client.

Interview Styles Differ.
From unstructured sessions with open-ended questions to competency-based interviews, familiarise yourself with styles.

Know Yourself.
The client will ask about your CV, so it's crucial to know it inside out. Bring at least five copies of your CV - one for yourself and extras for anyone else who may need it. Be prepared to articulate why you're interested in joining them and why you're leaving your current role.

Stay Focused.
Silence your mobile phone before the interview. It's a simple step, but one that's easy to overlook in the rush of preparations.
